Anonymous, Swiss, circa 1860. Fine gold, enamel and diamond set form watch designed as a scarab beetle.

Three part, underside realistically chased and engraved with legs and underbody, wing covers entirely decorated in scarlet and black guilloche enamel set with rose diamonds with thorax and head similarly decorated with rose diamond eyes; sprung loaded wing covers from a button in the base to reveal the dial. Hinged gold cuvette, a portrait miniature frame on the interior. D. White enamel, Roman hour numerals. Blued-steel hands. M. Oval, frosted and gilt bar caliber, going barrel, 10 jewels, cylinder escapement and plain 3-arm balance, flat spring and regulator. In very good condition. Dims. 62mm. overall. 26mm. wide.
