Anonymous, Swiss, circa 1885. Fine gold, enamel and jewelled form watch designed as a cicada beetle.

C. Three part, with realistically modelled underside, the hinged wing covers decorated in blue guilloche enamel set with bands of graduated rose diamonds, the thorax and head similarly set with diamonds and black enamel with cabochon ruby eyes and matching pendant; push piece at the base opening the wings to reveal the dial. D. White enamel, red and blue Arabic numerals. Gold hands. M. Circular keyless, nickel finished, 10 jewels, cylinder escapement, plain 3-arm balance, flat spring and regulator, glazed cover. In very fine condition. Dims. 56mm. overall, 21 mm. wide.
