Jn. Champion, London, made for the Chinese market, circa 1770. Very fine and important 20 ct. gold and enamel, agate and gem-set, quarter repeating watch, bearing the symbols of the Chinese Imperial Family.

Double body Louis XV outer, the pierced and chased bezel with agate pannels, the heavily chiselled and pierced back with a small painted enamel portrait in a diamond-set frame and two emerald and ruby set Imperial dragoons, ruby and emerald set bow. Double body bassine inner, pierced and engraved with foliage, flowers and a mask. GiIt brass dust cap. D. White enamel with Roman numerals and outer Arabic minute ring. Blued steel "poker and beetle" hands. M. Hinged gilt brass full plate with column pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, plain steel three arm balance, flat balance spring, giIt brass English cock. Repeating on a bell by depressing the pendant. Signed on the back plate and the gilt dust cap.. In very good condition. Diam.48 mm.
