Notes

Boutet was persona] gun maker to Napoleon, and in view of the unusual decoration and the signature on the dial, this precision watch \vas almost certainly made to match a set of valuable presentation pistols. Fitted with the escapement invented by Robert Robin in 1791, the movement of this watch is very similar to those made by Robin himself shortly before lis death. For the escapement see plate page 187.
