J.J. Lepaute, Horloger du Roy à Paris, 247 rue Saint Honoré, Paris, No. 43, circa 1815. Extremely fine mahogany centre-seconds mantel regulator with equation of time, annual calendar and remontoire.

C. Rectangular moulded with box-wood inlaid borders. D. Silvered chapter ring with Roman numerals and inner semi-circular sector for the equation of time, the subsidiary revolving year calendar ring below the dial. Gilt brass dial plate with apertures for indicating the state of winding. Blued-steel "fleur-de-lys" hands and "arrow" pointer for the annual calendar. M. Brass, secured on a solid brass bracket, with two going barrels, inverted dead-beat escapement, with Lepaute's differential remontoire disposed at right angles and released every ten seconds with fly regulator, half-seconds beating gril-iron pendulum with spring suspension. Signed on the dial and back plate. In very good condition. Dim. 60 x 32 x 23,5 cm.

Notes

The design of the dial and the workmanship of this regulator can be compared with those made by Antide Janvier. The unusual ten-seconds remontoir with a differential disposed at right angle, seems to have been employed in the Lepaute's workshop only.
