Charles Oudin, Horloger de S.M. le Roi d'Italie et de S. M. l'Empereur de France, 52 Palais Royal, Paris, made in 1869. Extremely fine and rare, gilt bronze and silver quarter-repeating "grande and petite sonnerie" moon phase astronomical full calendar carriage clock with alarm and special escapement, in original fitted travelling box.

C. Moulded gilt bronze, glazed on four sides, the double-ogee base on four gadrooned silver feet, with applied silver cartouche flanked by cherubs representing Science and Mechanics, the back with a similar Scientific trophy; the canted sides with applied silver three-quarter round columns, and each glass framed with a silver rope-twist mount; the ogee top with an elaborate silver finial comprised of fruiting foliage with two cherubs supporting a Royal Crown with bold-linked chain for carrying. D. Silver, Roman chapter ring with inner apertures for the phases of the moon and the year with a volvelle engraved for 1869-1888, subsidiary dial below for days of the week, date and alarm setting, aperture for the months. Blued steel elaborated pierced hands. Silver dial plate profusely chased with scrolling foliage. M. Gilt brass, rectangular with going barrels both on the going and the striking train, platform escapement with single wheel duplex escapement, bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel helical balance spring. Striking repeating and alarm on two bells with button on the top and optional strike/silent lever on the back plate. Signed on the dial and the fitted travelling box In very good condition.
