Charles Oudin, 52 Palais Royal, Paris, made for the Universal Exhibition, London 1862. Extremely fine and rare, gilt bronze and silver quarter-repeating "grande and petite sonnerie" carriage clock with alarm and double calendar.

C. Moulded gilt bronze, glazed on four sides, the double-ogee base with applied Royal monogram and crown on a silver cartouche tlanked by reclining ladies, the back with Scientific trophies; the canted sides with applied silver half round colmns, and each glass framed with a silver mount; the ogee top with an elaborate silver finial comprised an urn supported by garlands and flanked by two reclining cherubs with boldlinked chain for carrying. D. Crystal with silvered Roman chapter ring and subsidiary dial below for days of the week, date and alarm setting. Blued steel "trefle" hands. M. Gilt brass, rectangular with going barrels both on the going and the striking train, platform escapement with straight line lever escapement, bimetallic balance, blued steel flat balance spring with micrometer index. Striking repeating and alarm on two bells with button on the top and optional strike/silent - grande/petite sonnerie lever on the back plate. Signed on the back plate. In very good condition. Dim. 19 x 10,5 x 9,5 cm.
