Pointaux - E, Louis Auguste. 1809-1885 h1 a report written by M. Francoeur made in 1840 to the Société d'encouragement pour l'Industrie Nationale in the name of the Comité des Arts Mécaniques, on the horological workshops of M. Le Roy and two clocks of new design he remarks: Dans l'atelier de M. Le Roy, le chef est secondé par sept ouvriers et quatre apprentis. Ce chef fait par lui même le plus grand nombre des remontés-polis, et commande depuis dix ans aux hommes qu'il a sous sa direction. M. Pointaux est un excellent chef d"ateleier, qui se recommande à votre bienveillante protection et à vos récompenses. hlstalled in the Rue Cherubini from about 1845, Pointaux invented various horological mechanisms, in particular the remontoire fitted to the clock offered here. He also invented a 'coup perdu' escapement for mantle regulators. In London in 1852 he exhibited high quality carriage clocks, and clocks and regulators with a half-second escapement of his own invention He was also the maker of the famous astronomical clock set up in Detouche's shop \vindo\v 'Au Balancier de cristal' in the Rue de Rivoli. In 1857 he returned as head of workshops to Le Roy & fils although the company had been sold in 1845 by Louis Charles Le Roy to Casimir Halley Desfontaines on conditon that he retain the same trading naine.
