C. Double body, "oignon", polished, the back engraved 'with concentric roundels. D. White enamel embossed with black Roman numerals and outer Arabic minute ring; Blued steel "pokerandbeetle" hands. M. Hinged gilt brass with Egyptian pillars, fusee with chain, with engraved chain guard verge escapement, plain steel three-arm balance, flat balance spring, gilt brass Louis XIV cock pierced and engraved with inhabited foliage. Signed on the back plate. In very good condition. Diam. 57 mm.
Notes
Probably Paul Alexandre, 'vho baptised his son in
1701, was situated at the Rue de Harley in 1701,
Cimetière St-Jean in 1706, and called as Juré in
1720.
This watch is a classic example of the later
development of the oignon, with a one-piece
enamel dial instead of cartouches, although the
embossed effect is retained, an outer ring for
minutes, and two hands. Shortly after this datecirca
1710-watches began to reduce in size.
