P. Chapelle, Bordeaux, circa 1590. A rare and large oval gilt-metal Puritan style watch.

C. Three body, plain band and hinged covers ( interior of the front with later owner's initials and date 1796, small damage, expected Wear to the gilding). Loose ring pendant and button finial. D. Oval gilt-metal with engraved Roman hour chapters and 'V' shaped half hour marks, the inner ring with touch studs. Single blued-steel double-ended hand. M. Oval gilt plates, turned balluster pillars, fusee with gut, three-wheel train with verge escapement, plain two-arm steel balance, irregular pierced and florally engraved balance cock secured by a pin with matching regulator cock, blued-steel set-up wheel and click spring. Signed on the back plate. In good condition. Dim. 84 x 48 mm.
