?The Continence of Scipio, by Cochin? Quare, London, No. 1025. Made circa 1690. Fine, early, repousse silver pair-cased pocket watch with single hand.

C. Outer: two-body, repousse, decorated in relief with a central scene within a rocaille scroll border signed ?Cochin. F?. Inner: two-body, "bassine", polished, deep back, split bezel, loose ring pendant. D. Silver ?champlevé? with radial Roman numerals and inner half and quarter-hour divisions, the center decorated with scrolls and the signature cartouches. Fleur-de-lys steel hour pointer. M. 40 mm., hinged, gilt brass full plate with divided Egyptian pillars, fusée and chain, verge escapement, plain steel three-arm balance, flat balance spring, gilt brass winged cock pierced and engraved with foliage. Dial and movement signed. Diam. 54 mm.

Daniel Quare A very celebrated maker of clocks and watches who invented repeating for watches in about 1680. He was born in 1649, became free of the Clockmakers? Company in 1671, master in 1708 and died in 1724. Daniel Cochin A master engraver in Geneva in 1732, he specialized in repoussé work and chasing. His work, particularly skillful, is noted for its use of many figures. He signed as follows: ?Cochin?; ?Cochin F.?; or ?Cochin Fecit?.
