Wm. Carpenter, London, circa 1785. Fine and rare gilt-metal pair-cased astronomical watch with extraordinary seed-pearl decoration.
C. Double-body outer, with engraved band multi-coloured paste-set bezel and surround to the glazed back panel, with an unusual scene of a windmill made entirely with graduated seed pearls, mother-of-pearl and gold on a Bristol blue glass ground. D. White enamel, subsidiary rings for hours, with Roman numerals, Arabic minutes, seconds, quarter seconds, lunar calendar with phase, slow/fast regulator. Visible stone-set five-arm balance. Gold heart hands. M. Full-plate gilt brass, the backplate engraved with foliage, fusee with chain, verge escapement with balance stop, balance with flat spring. GiIt dust ring. Signed on the movement. In very good condition. Diam. 68 mm.
