Four-body, 'bassine et filets', the back cast and chased, with applied filigree gold pearls and set with semi-precious stones in a scallop pattern, the band, pendant, bow and bezel decorated en suite, gold hinged cuvette.D. Gold with champlevé Roman chapters in round cartouches surrounded by blue enamel, engine-turned centre with blue enamel catherine-wheel. Blued-steel 'lozenge' hands. M. 30.2 mm o, gilt brass full plate with cylindrical pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, plain brass balance, continental cock pierced and engraved with the letters ABLotT, repeating on two gongs by depressing the pendant.Signed on the dial, movement, cuvette and initialled on cock.Diam. 42 mm. Notes

The use of pearls of gold, also called 'granulation', was employed by the ancient Etruscans, who indeed were famous for this difficult and painstaking technique. It involves the formation of tiny beads of gold for decorative purposes. The present lot employs a technique in which ready-to-apply fine gauge gold rope wires or filaments are soldered onto the surface to form the desired pattern.Allier Lot Bachelard Lot Terond.Partners from 1820 to about 1845. From 1828 the firm took the name Alliez, Bachelard et Terond Fils. One of the petitioners in 1829 for a new observatory. They specialised in musical watches, repeaters, and skeletonised watches both in full plate as well as Lepine caliber. They also produced watches for Italy, France and Spain.
