Unsigned, Japanese, circa 1850.Fine and very rare shitan wood, single-hand 'inro' watch, accompanied by a carved skull 'netsuke', a carved skull ojime, and a satin pouch containing rice grain shells.

C. Rectangular and curved, carved with a tiger and bamboo leaves on the back, the front with foliage, winding aperture in the back. D. Brass, outer ring divided into 100, the inner into 12, twelve movable brass hour plates numbered in Japanese characters from the top: 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4 which is the equivalent of the European 24 hours. Blued-steel single hand. M. Circular, 45 mm o, brass full plate, three cylindrical pillars, fusee and chain, five-wheel train, verge escapement, pain brass three-arm balance, blued-steel balance spring, two feet flat pierced cock.Dim. 66 x 55 mm.
