Unsigned, German, circa 1580.Very fine and extremely rare, oval, gilt metal and enamel, two-train, single-hand stackfreed clock watch.
C. Three-body, back cover pierced and engraved with arabesque and snake decoration, the band engraved in relief, the hinged front cover was originally pierced with a gothic rosette, which was soon after removed to allow easier reading of the dial. D. Silver, circular, decorated with enamel resembling cloisonné in blue and green translucent colours forming a rosette, mounted in the centre of the gilt brass oval plate decorated with arabesques, champlevé Roman hour chapter ring with stars for halfhours, aperture at the bottom to set the striking. Iron steel tulip hand. M. 40 x 47 mm, gilt brass full plate, square baluster pillars, fixed barrel and a G-shaped stackfreed, five-wheel train, second wheel with six-leaf pinion, the rest with five leaves, steel escape wheel, verge escapement, steel two-arm circular foliot with hog's bristle regulator, small brass S-shaped cock secured by a screw, striking from a fixed barrel with five-wheel train, governor pinion with brass cylindrical weight,triking on shallow circular bell screwed to the bottom of the case, barrels engraved with scrolls, secured to the case by two dog screws.Dim. 63 x 46 mm.
