Venus at the Forge.Terrot & Thuillier, Geneva, enamel painting in the style of Gédéon Decombaz, circa 1750.Very fine 20 ct. gold and enamel, quarter repeating watch on a bell, dumb, and with à tact feature.

Two-body, 'Louis XV', the back painted on enamel with a scene of Venus appearing with Cupid to her husband Vulcan at his forge, demanding arms for her son, Aeneas, the edges decorated with scrolls and champlevé enamel flower and foliate motifs. D. White enamel, radial Roman chapters, outer minute ring with five minute Arabic numerals. Silver, paste-set 'Louis XV' hands. M. 36.5 mm, hinged, gilt brass full plate with cylindrical pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, plain steel three-armbalance, blued-steel balance spring, continental cock pierced and engraved in symmetrical geometrical pattern, striking on a bell by two hammers, activated by depressing the pendant with an option for tactile and dumb repeating by means of a small bolt protruding from the movement at 6 o'clock.Signed on the movement.Diam. 46 mm o. Notes

Terrot Lot Thullier (1735-1750)Master watchmakers and clockmakers, and Geneva representatives of Jaquet-Droz. Made very high-quality watches very often decorated with enamel. Jean Pierre Thuillier (1696-1768), son of Isaac, was made a citizen of Geneva and married in 1722. Philippe Terrot (1696- 1781), originally from Pont-en-Royans in Dauphiné (France), took refuge in Geneve in 1700, was elected citizen in 1732 and married in 1738.
