Richard Masterson, London, circa 1640.Very fine and rare silver single-hand pendant watch in the form of an oval scallop shell, with concealed dial.
C. Two-body, oval, 'bassine fermée' type with curved-in edges, the case entirely chiselled with scallop shell ribs in relief against a matted ground, silver shutter in the form of a scallop shell on the back, short tulip pendant, loose ring. D. Silver, oval, red radial Roman chapters, fine floral engraving inside and outside the chapter ring. Blued-steel 'tulip' hand. M. 26 x 35 mm, oval, gilt brass full plate, early Egyptian pillars, fusee and gut-line for the going train, verge escapement, twoarm steel circular foliot, elongated pinned cock asymmetrically pierced and engraved with floral decoration, wheel and click set-up.Signed on the movement.Dim. 30 x 57 mm.
