Meleager and AtalantaJacobus Garnault, Hague, enamel painting signed by les Frères Huaut, circa 1688.Magnificent and rare gold and enamel, single-hand pendant watch.
C. Two-body, 'bassine' with curved-in edges, entirely painted on enamel, the main scene on the back, depicting Meleager and Atalanta, taken from an engraving by Cornelis Bloemaert after a painting by Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1641). Meleager, the King of Calydon's son, presents Atalanta, the virgin huntress, with a boar's head after the Calydonian boar hunt. The band decorated with four vignettes each depicting a different house situated close to a lake or a river, linked by a yellow ribbon. The eamel inside the back with a fisherman in a lakescape, later gold pendant and bow. D. White enamel radial Roman chapter ring with half-hour markers, the centre with a finely painted scene of Diana reposing with a garland of flowers in her hand. Blued-steel hand. M. 33.5 mm o, hinged, gilt brass full plate, pierced tulip pillars, fusee and chain for the going train, verge escapement with short balance spring, double-footed early trefoil cock pierced and engraved, worm and wheel set-up, rack and piion regulator with silver plate.Signed on the movement, case signed Les Frères Huaut.Diam. 41 mm.
