Piguet et Meylan, Geneva, No 338, circa 1820.Very fine and rare 18 ct. gold three-train musical hour-striking and clock watch with 'trip' hour repeating.
C. Four-body, 'Empire', back engine-turned in 'grains d'orge' pattern, reeded band and bezel, gilt hinged cuvette. D. Gold with blue enamel and turquoise-set harp in the centre surrounded by leaf decoration with white enamel cartouches and minute ring, Breguet numerals. Blued-steel Breguet hands. M. 48 mm o, gilt brass 3/4 plate, cylinder escapement, plain three-arm brass balance, flat balance spring, the hour-striking train with visible levers on the back plate, striking on one gong, music by apinned revolving disc playing on 21 tuned teeth arranged in a fan-shape, a slide for music on demand at 10 o'clock and another for silent/striking at 1 o'clock, repeating by a push-button on the pendant.Stamped with Piguet et Meylan marks on the movement under the dial and inside the cuvette, numbered on the movement, cuvette, and inside the back cover.Diam. 57 mm.
