C. Two-body, lobed and faceted rock-crystal cover and back, the border engraved, the interior surrounded with scrolls and foliage, small pendant with loose ring, button finial. D. Engraved silver plate, radial Roman chapters, quarter-hour markers, gilt brass dial plate engraved with a floral decoration. Blued-steel 'tulip' hand. M. 24 x 27 mm, hinged, gilt brass full plate, early Egyptian pillars (one replaced), fusee with gut-line for the going train, verge escapement with two-arm circular folit, oval florally pierced and engraved gilt brass pinned cock with a later screw, worm-and-wheel set-up replacing original ratchet and click.Signed on the back plate. Notes

Grinkin Robertis one of the most notable makers of the period, and a founding member of the Clockmakers' Company, to which he was elected in 1632, having previously been Master of the Blacksmiths' Company in 1609. He was made Master in 1648, and died in 1660.
