EveningPiguet & Meylan, Geneva, No. 7367, circa 1825.Magnificent 18 ct. gold and enamel pearl-set quarter repeating centre seconds watch, made for the Chinese market.
C. Four-body, the spring-loaded back cover decorated with a finely painted enamel scene of a young flautist playing for a shepherdess within a half pearl frame, the subject taken from an engraving by A. Conte after a sequence of paintings by William Hamilton (1751-1801), each titled as part of the day, this being the 'Evening'. The band with red and green floral decoration in champlevé enamel on an azure ground, the pendant and bow en suite, the spring-loaded bezel set with half pearls. The goldhinged cuvette is very beautifully painted enamel with a nude reclining Venus holding a flower vase on an azure blue ground. D. White enamel, Roman chapters, outer minute and fifth-second divisions with fifteen-minute Arabic numerals. Blued-steel 'lozenge' hands.M. 46.5 mm o, gilt brass full plate, fully engraved, fixed barrel, cylinder escapement, gold three-arm balance,flat balance spring, repeating on gongs by depressing the pendant.The movement numbered and stamped with Piguet Lot Meylan mark.Diam. 56 mm.
