Amour et FidélitéUnsigned, Geneva, casemaker's mark coronet above P.G. incuse, circa 1790.Very fine and rare 18 ct. gold and enamel musical scent flask fitted with a watch with visible balance, made for the Chinese market, in original fitted box.
C. Three-body, both covers hinged, the front cover with two apertures; the lower one for the dial, the upper one for the diamond-set balance, painted with garlands of flowers and blue ribbons on a pale rose ground, the back cover centred with an oval medallion painted in translucent enamel over gold guilloché with a pair of nesting doves and a dog, symbolising love and fidelity, with a champlevé enamel frame, surrounded by flower garlands in the same manner the front, the edges with red, white ad blue champlevé scroll motifs and matching the band with a geometrical pattern of azure, white and red enamels with round white enamel dots simulating pearls, a scent container at the top covered with a pierced and engraved gold key, 'basket'-type hinged bow. D. White enamel, radial Roman chapters, outer minute divisions with five-minute Arabic numerals. Diamond-set 'Louis XVI' hands. M. Lyre-shaped, gilded and entirely engraved, going barrel, cylinder escapement, three-arm balance set with diaonds.Musical movement on the back side of the flask, gilt, fully engraved, pinned barrel playing by four hammers on four bells, five-wheel train, last pinion with eight-winged fly.Case stamped P.G. under a coronet.Dim.
