Notes

The first departure from the drum-shaped earliest watches (see lot No. 63-65) consisted of rounding the edges and making the covers domed. The present lot is an excellent example of that trend.Very few watches or clocks by Carl Schmidt have survived. There is one 'Nürnberg egg' by him in the Metropolitan Musem of Art striking from one to six, and a handful of his clocks in different museums, each one with some unusual features. Apparently an innovative and very capable maker.
