Pierre Drouynot, A Poitiers, circa 1650.Very fine and extremely rare gilt metal single-hand, hour striking three-train coach watch with an alarm, in original fitted travelling box.

C. Hinged and latched leather travelling box with dial viewing cover. Inner: two-body, 'bassine', polished bezel, the back engraved with a small rosette, the band pierced and engraved with flowers and foliage and four anchors, tulip pendant with loose ring. D. Gilt, floral and mask engraving outside the applied Roman chapter ring with quarter-hour divisions, centre rotating gilt alarm disc comprising four flower-engraved divisions with fleur-de-lis blued-steel pointer indicating the time. Blued-teel 'poker' hand for setting the alarm. M. 63.6 mm o, gilt brass full plate with vase pillars, fusee and chain, four-wheel train, verge escapement, plain steel three-arm balance, short balance spring, unusual continental cock with two feet, pierced and engraved with symmetrical foliage, the feet engraved with scallop shells, wheel and click set-up covered with a bridge decorated with flowers and foliage. Fixed barrel for the striking, pierced and engraved with foliage, five-wheel train, silverount wheel mounted on the bottom plate, striking with one hammer on a bell, alarm with fixed barrel and three-wheel train, striking on the same bell.Signed on the movement.Diam. 90 mm.
