La Vallée de l'ArveMaurice Ditisheim , No. 2259, enamel attributed to Louis Rosselet, circa 1890.Very important and rare 18 ct. gold and enamel, pearl-set hunting-cased, keyless, double train, astronomical grande et petite sonnerie clock watch with minute repeating and perpetual calendar, made for the Chinese market.

C. Four-body, solid, 'bassine et filets', the front painted with a gentleman reading aloud to a lady and her companion, the back with a landscape of the vallée de l'Arve between Geneva and Chamonix painted in the style of Calame, the bezels set with a double row of pearls, gold hinged cuvette engraved with the mention of a medal won at the Paris 1889 Exhibition, glazed bezel. D. White enamel, Roman chapters, outer minute divisions, four subsidiary dials for the four year leap cycle with indicatin of the months, days of the month, days of the week and seconds, concentric, aperture for the phases and age of the moon. Gold gem-set 'Louis XVI' hands. M. 20''', nickel, wave decorated, 30 jewels, four in gold châtons, tandem winding, straight line counterpoised lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance, Breguet balance spring, striking and repeating on two gongs by a slide on the band, a lever for the change from grande to petite sonnerie at 7 o'clock, striking/silentat 12 o'clock.Stamped with the maker's mark on the case, the case stamped with Maurice Ditisheim's stamp.Diam. 56 mm. Rosselet LouisA well-known enamel painter of the second half of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, he specialised in countryside scenes and landscapes and often worked for the Chinese and Indian markets. Among his famous scenes : ' Peacock by a lakeside ', ' Bouquets of flowers '. He is recorded at Place du Temple 171 in 1857.Ditisheim Maurice (d.1895)The company was founded in 1858 in Chaux-de-Fonds by Maurice Ditisheim and was also called Ditisheim Frères. An advertisement in the 'Almanach des Horlogers' (St. Imier 1888) mentioned them as a 'Fabrique d'Horlogerie' and they both bought and sold. In 1894, the Maurice Ditisheim company and the company Ditisheim Frères, Fabrique Vulcain, combined forces. Then the name became 'Maurice Ditisheim, Fabrique Vulcain'.Maurice Ditisheim exhibited watches at the 1893 Columbian World Exhibition in Chicago.
