Markwick Markham, Exchange, London, No. 18396, made for the Islamic market circa 1790. Fine 20 ct. gold and enamel triple case quarter repeating watch.
C. Double body protecting case, glazed both sides, with scallop edges, the bezels decorated, inside and outside with green and red champleve, translucent enamelled flowers. Double body outer case, with scallop edges, the bezels with decoration matching that of the protecting case, the back of blue enamel over engine turning, centered with a fine painted scene of sea-side landscape with a vessel and a castle in a medaillon, framed by white enamel dots (slightly restores on the border an bezels). Double body inner, bassine, the back decorated with champleve enamelled military trophies, the border pierced and chased with scrolls and flowers and engraved with a small landscape. D. Contemporary white enamel, signed George Prior, with Turkish numerals. Blued steel poker and beetle hands. GiIt brass dust rim. M. GiIt brass full plate with cylindrical pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, plain steel three armed balance, flat balance spring, English type gilt brass cock with diamond end-stone. Repeating on a bell by depressing the pendant. Signed on the back plate. In good condition. Diam. 56 mm.
