Cronier Ainé, Rue S. honoré, N. 140 à Paris, early 19th. century. Fine and rare mahogany striking table regulator surmounted by a planetarium.
C. Rectangular mahogany frame with ogee moulded base, glazed on all sides with brass banding. Pediment top supporting the planetarium, and hinged back door. D. White enamel, with Roman hour and Arabic 15 minute numerals. Pierced, engraved and gilt Louis XVI hands with polished sweep centre-seconds. Cast and gIIt glazed bezel. M. Circular brass plates with large going barrels for extended duration, pin-wheel escapement with `scape wheel mounted on the backplate, adjustable anchor and knife-edge suspended gridiron pendulum with gilt brass bob. Hour/half-hour locking-plate striking on a bell. The planetarium driven by bevel gearing off the count-wheel arbor, constructed in polished steel and brass, and fitted with a spring-barrel to assist in the drive and to provide independent power when the vertical shaft is disengaged by the lever provided. Motion of five planets shown around a gilt wooden bail representing the sun, the planets in the form of ivory balls, the earth of wood with motion around its axis and the moon's rotation and phase. GiIt dials for the moon's quarters, zodiac and annual calendar. Signed on the dial. In very good condition. Dims. 650 x 310 x 175 mm.
