Japy Freres, France, circa 1880. Fine and rare striking, repeating and alarm carriage clock, with centre seconds, and singing bird.

C. GiIt brass, the base cast with scrollwork on a matted ground, free-standing acanthus columns with cone finials. Glazed sides, solid back door. An extension of the case above glazeci on three sides and the top, with swanneck carrying handle, the bird contained within. D. White enamel, Roman hour numerals, outer minute ring, and alarm ring below. Blued-steel Breguet hands with sweep centre-seconds. M. Brass plates, going barrels, horizontal platform lever escapement with plain steel 'winged' balance, half/hour striking/repeating and alarm on bell. Singing bird movement contained in the base with going barrel, the bird operated by levers passing up the back of the movement. with moving body and wings. Signed on the backplate in a stamp with date of the 1855 Exhibition and Grande Med. D'Honneur. In good condition. Dims. 270 x 120 x 105 mm.
