Ganthony, 83 Cheapside, London, circa 1840. Rare and extremely fine ormolu carriage clock, in the manner of Thomas Cole, specially made to be presented to the Vicountess Valentia.
C. Rectangular, with eight applied flat columns, arched pediment and glazed side and top panels, entirely engraved with scrolls, figures of saints between the columns on the face and with a sitting lady with chiidren, below the dial. Inscription on the pediment: F.I.F. OB. Vlll. MAII A.D. MDCCCXI. II., and on the base: We took sweet counsel together, and walked in the bouse of GOD as friends. Dedication on the back door: Presented in compliance with the wish of Mrs. Frances James Freshfield, to her niece The Vicountess Valentia, by her sorrowing husband. 1842. D. Silver with Roman numerals, engraved with the coat of arms of the Vicountess. Blued steel fleurs de lys hands. Very fine brass rectangular eight day going movement with turned pillars, fusee with chain, frostecl and gilt platform escapement with English lateral lever escapement, cut bimetallic balance, diamond end-stone and flat blued steel balance spring. Signed on the back plate. In very good condition. Dim. 21.5x13x8cm.
