?Musical & Center Seconds? Isaac Daniel Piguet A Genève, No. 181. Made circa 1830. Very fine and very rare, 18K gold early sur plateau musical pocket watch with quarter- repeating and center seconds.

C. Three-body, "Empire", engine-turned back, reeded band. Gilt brass cuvette hinged to the movement ring, push pin at the band to activate the music. D. White enamel with Dauphine numerals, outer minute and seconds divisions. Blued steel skeletonized "spear" hands. M. 51 mm. (22 1/2 '''), gilt brass, skeletonized, going barrel, cylinder escapement, three-arm plain brass balance with flat balance spring, repeating on gongs activated by depressing the pendant, early sur plateau musical mechanism with fixed barrel and eleven blued steel tuned teeth acting on both sides of the pinned disc. Signed on the movement ring, movement punched with the serial number, pinned disk punched with the serial number and additional number 44, case punched by the casemaker "RB" in lozenge with an anchor between and with the serial number. Diam. 58.5 mm.

The movement of the present watch represents a development from the classic full plate movement, conception, which leaves the wheel train visible and easily accessible to the watchmaker. Isaac Daniel Piguet Born in 1775 in Le Chenit, Isaac Daniel Piguet married Jeanne Françoise Capt around 1795, and around 1800 settled in Geneva with his family. Piguet was associated with his brother-in-law Henry Daniel Capt, from 1802 to 1811, and with Philippe Samuel Meylan from 1811 to 1828. Piguet and his son David Auguste established the company ?Piguet père & fils? at no. 69 rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau. Piguet died in Geneva, on January 20, 1841, at the age of 66.
