Francis Perigal, Royal Exchange, London, No.19390 ,circa 1788. A very fine gold, enamel, ruby and pearl-set paircased hour-striking clock watch with centreseconds.
C. Double body outer, the bezels set with alternate split -pearls and rubies, the band engraved and decorated with blue and white champlevé enamel, the back panel enamelled with scene of a young girl heside a stream within scarlet border. Inner, double body entirely engraved and partly pierced with floral foliage ( London hallmark for 1778). D. White enamel with Roman hour and Arabic minute numerals. Gold "beetle-and-poker" hands, counterpoised gold centre-seconds. M. Gilt brass full-plate, turned pillars, fusee with chain, cylinder escapement, plain balance, flat spring with regulator, florally pierced balance cock table with diamond endstone. Striking and repeating on a bell , train release by depressing the pendant ,with strike /silent and start/stop levers in the dial plate. Gilt dust cap. Signed on the back-plate and dust cap. In perfect condition. Diam. 52 mm.
