Edward White No. 2614 from Dent's, 20 Cockspur St, Charing Cross, hallmarked 1867.Very fine and rare 18K gold pocket chronometer with center-seconds and special escapement.
C. Four-body, "bassine et filets", engine-turned, spring-loaded back cover, reeded band, gold hinged cuvette.D. White enamel, Roman numerals, outer minute and seconds ring, calibrated in half-seconds, sunk center. Gold "spade" hands. M. 43 mm, gilt brass half-plate, fusee with Harrison's maintaining power and chain, Patent Union Chronometer escapement with adjustable pallet frame cock, single plane brass escape wheel, cut bimetallic compensation balance with gold compensation and timing screws, gold threaded poising pins, blued steel flat balance spring, 14 jewels, index regulator.Signed on dial and movement.Diam. 52 mm.Edward White was an employee of E.J. Dent before he settled on his own. He advertised making hunting cased chrono-meters, made clocks in the manner of Thomas Cole, was known as an inventive and very skilled horologist.
