Four-body, "bassine et filets", polished, glazed cuvette for viewing the erotic automaton in which Mephistopheles, dressed in a dashing red cape, watches with great interest as Faust and Marguerite enjoy themselves in a countryside setting. D. White enamel, Roman numerals, outer minute ring, five-minute Arabic markers, subsidiary seconds. Blued steel "spade" hands. M. 39.5 mm, brass, cylinder escapement, three-arm, plain brass balance, flat balance spring, automaton driven from a cam set on awheel meshing with thewinding pinion.Diam. 52 mm.
