Early "Capucine" Gorteau à Tours. Made circa 1780. Very fine and early, Louis XVI, 8-day-going "Capucine" alarm clock.

C. Rectangular, brass, hinged glazed bezel, side doors, 4 turned finials, 4 bun feet, bell at the top surmounted by a hinged handle. D. White enamel, convex, radial Roman numerals, outer minute track and Arabic 5-minute numerals, central brass alarm setting ring with pointer. Gilt brass "Louis XV" hands. M. Rectangular, brass, going barrel, anchor escapement, pendulum with crescent-shaped brass bob, silk suspension, alarm train wound through the dial, striking on the bell. Dim. 15 x 10 x 7 cm.
