?The Fireplace? French. Made circa 1890. Fine and rare, gilt and silvered brass, red marble and bronze, 8-day going, hour and half-hour striking mantel clock in the form of a fireplace.
C. Stepped red marble base with block feet and engraved brass ?floor?, fireplace opening with fireback and 2 firedogs, the cooking-pot pendulum between, the clock mounted above in the chimney breast and flanked by 2 foliate panels, sloping bronze roof with brass ridge. D. Annular white enamel with Arabic numerals, outer minute track, silvered engraved center. Blued steel ?fancy? hands. M. Circular, brass, 2-train, anchor escapement, the crutch attached to the cooking-pot pendulum, striking on a bell. Dim. 30 x 42 x 15.5 cm.
