Rodet, London, (Geneva), circa 1700. Unusual silver and enamel Louis XIV oignon in the French style, with mock pendulum.

Four body "onion" case engraved with inhabited foliage, a portrait of Cleopatra finely painted on an enamel plate set on the opening back (slightly rubbed), a fine allegorical scene on the enamel interior painted in the manner of Musard,depicting a pilgrim waking Venus, while a Cupid points the time on a clock indicating that it is always time for love. Silver champlevé dial with Roman numerals and outer Arabic minute ring. GiIt brass pierced hands. GiIt brass full plate French onion type movement with Egyptian pillars, fusee with a female winding hole on the dial side and chain, verge escapement with a plain brass three armed balance, a silver mock pendulum set on the rim, silver French Louis XIV pendulum cock chased with birds and scrolled foliage. Signed on the dial and the back plate. In good condition. Diam. 56 mm. Despite bearing a London signature, this is a typical Geneva watch.
