Jean Francois Poncet, Dresden, circa 1740. A very fine triple-cased silver coach watch with half quarterrepeating and alarm.
Massive double-bodied "Louis XV" case, partially pierced with a leaf pattern, with universal joint pendant. Outer case covered in shagreen and mounted in silver with pierced roundels, pinwork and fleurs-de-lys decoration. Third protecting case of wood covered with embossed leather, hinged dial cover and brass hooks, lined in suede. White enamel dial with Roman hour chapters, outer Arabic minute ring and central champleve engraved alarm disc. Pierced blued-steel "varies" hands. Movement with finely gilt circular plates, the plain rectangular pillars with applied pierced silver scroll work mounts, fusee with chain, verge escapement with plain three-arm, balance, english cock, the table and foot pierced decoration. Engraved fixed barrel for alarm on one hammer. Repeating with two hammers on a bell. Signed on the movement. In excellent condition. Dim. 12.3 cm.
