Hunt & Roskell, French for the English market. Circa 1880. A fine and very rare circle pendent dead centre-seconds mantel regulator.
Substantial gilt-brass four glass moulded case with concealed back and front doors. Small eccentric white enamel dial with Roman numerals. Blued-steel moon hands. Concentric enamel seconds ring with Arabic numerals and counter-poised blued-steel hand. Double barrel timepiece movement with shaped rectangular plates and taper turned pillars. Graham type dead-beat escapement, the 'scape wheel driven anti-clockwise by an intermediate pinion. Dead centre-seconds operated by a pivotted lever advanced by an additional sprung arm on the pallet arbor, all contact surfaces equipped with rollers. "Coup-perdu" style centre-seconds wheel. Brass and steel gridiron pendulum with elliptical rods, glazed aperture in the bob, the compensation adjustable by key square passing through the edge. Enamelled beat-setting scale in the base. Signed on the dial. In good condition. Dim. 47 x 28 x 20.5 cm.
