Frederic Houriet, Swiss, circa 1810. Very fine silver cased pocket thermometer.
Double body massive "forme collier" polished case. White enamel dial with double division and the inscriptions: " Degrés du froid - Glace - Degrés du chaud". Blued steel hand. Mechanism with a bimetallic curb operating the hand by means of a rack.Signed on the dial. In very good condition. 'Diam. 60 mm. Invented by Frederic Houriet circa 1810 and described by him in a special advertisement , such thermometers were Iater produced by Urban Jurgensen, his son in law and by Breguet.
