Arthur Imhof, La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, sold in 1985. "La Pendule Royale No. 7", from the Imhof Museum. Magnificent gold, diamond, citrine and hardstone "Mystery" time piece, one of 8 made, in original fittecl box with certificates.

C. Silver-gilt and gold mounts with facetted rectangular obsidian anci lapis-lazuli base, four rock crystal columns with plaqué onyx and lapis bases and diamonds collans supporting the top, susmounted by an octogonal crown composed of altemate panels of hardstone, the frieze in diamonds with cabochon lapis finial; hinged to neveal the hand-setting button and engraved title. D. Octogonal, suspencleci below the pediment, the silver-gilt frame set with panels of mother-of-pead and black onyx, with diamond and lapis hour marks, the centre comprised of a massive facette citrine. Diamond-set "fancy" hands. M. High gracie quartz, frequency 4,19mHz, accurate to 10 seconds per annum. Signed on the case. In mint condition. Dim. 33 cm x 23.5 cm x 16 cm. Estimate:

This clock is the seventh example made in a limited series of only 8, completed in 1985. No further examples will be made.The jewellers, lapidaries and clock makers requirecl a total of 1900 hours to finish each piece, and notable amongst the statistics are the following: Citrine mystery dial: 2,720 carats Diamonds: 680 WSI quality stones Silver: 4,8 kgs Total weight: 12,3 kgs. The original leather case, travelling carton and box along with certificates accompany the lot.
