Ilbery, London, 6117, made for the Chinese Mraket, circa 1790, fromerly in the collection of King Farouk. Important and very fine gold, enamel, pearl and hardstone centre-seconds watch, with special escapement. In fitted case.

C. Oviform, polished frame inset with 38 panels of cornelian and mass agate, back centred with a large panel of mass agate within split-pearl border. Scarlet, black and blue enamelled pendant, low and button finial. D. White enamel, Roman numerals, minute marks. Gold "Breguet pointes évidées" hands with centre-seconds. M. Skeletonised, engraved and gilt of typical calibre, standing barrel with stop-work. Duplex escapement, polished steeel five-arm balance, flat spring and diamond end-stone. Signed on movement. In excellent condition. Dim. 110 x 65 mm.

This watch was formerly in the famous collection of boxes, watches and objects formed by King Farouk of Egypt. The original lot tickets, description and a gold key are included. The unusual form of the case is apparently derived from the jade disks carried to assist in cooling the hands.
