"The Rapt of Europa" G.F. Koerber, Francfurt, No. 444. Made circa 1760. Very fine, quarter repeating, 20K gold, repoussé pair-cased pocket watch with signed outer case.

C. Outer: two-body, repoussé, signed D.S., decorated with a scene of the rapt of Europa, within an asymmetric rococo cartouche, pierced foliate outer border, bezel decorated to match. Inner: two-body, "bassine", band pierced and engraved with inhabited foliage and a mask. Silvered dust cap. D. White enamel, radial Roman numerals, outer minute track, five-minute Arabic numerals. Gold pierced hands. M. 33 mm, hinged, frosted gilt full-plate with square baluster pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, three-arm brass balance with flat balance spring, pierced and engraved single-footed silver cock, silver regulation dial, repeating on bell activated by depressing the pendant, originally à toc lever (now missing).
