Notes

The plaque on the base of this clock is inscribed "Presented to Carl Weber by some of his pupils, July 4th, 1911". The Eureka clock was designed by Timothy Bernard Powers, an American engineer and patented by the Kutnow brothers in 1906. It was the first successful use of an electrically maintained balance wheel for timekeeping. In 1909 a factory was set up at 361 City Road, London, to commence production of this novel electric clock. It is thought that only about 10,000 clocks were made; the factory closed in 1914.
