Virgilia and Volumnia pleading to CoriolanusUnsigned, Geneva, repoussé by Mauris, circa 1740.Fine and rare silver pair-cased watch, with painted enamel panel on the movement, false pendulumand date, made for the Dutch market.
C. Outer: two-body, back repoussé with Virgilia and Volumnia pleading to Coriolanus. Inner: two-body, "bassine", polished. D. Silver, champlevé Roman chapters set eccentrically at the top with outer minute ring and five-minute Arabic markers on polished cartouches, aperture at the bottom for the false pendulum, another at 8 o'clock for the regulator and symmetrically at 4 o'clock aperture for date. Gilt "Louis XV" hands. M. 40 mm, gilt brass reversed full plate, elaborate Egyptian pillars, the bck with an applied and finely painted on enamel medallion with a lady's portrait, fusee and chain, verge escapement, plain brass balance set under the dial.Repoussé signed "Mauris fecit"Diam. 55 mm.
