Unsigned, Geneva, circa 1830.Very fine 18K gold and enamel, pearl- and turquoise-set, quarter-repeating musical watch playing on the hour or on demand, made for the Chinese market.

Four-body, "Empire", the enameled back panel finely painted with a scene depicting a gentleman taking leave of his loving family, the band, bezels, pendant and bow set with split pearls alternating with turquoise cabochons. Hinged gold cuvette with turquoise blue champlevé enameled foliage decoration. D. Gold engine-turned with Roman numerals. Blued steel "serpent" hands. M. Gilt brass, inverted cylinder escapement with plain three-arm balance and blued-steel flat balance-spring, pinned disc,musical train with 23 individual tuned teeth, playing on the hour or at will, the Music/Silent lever in the edge. Repeating on two gongs by depressing the pendant.Diam. 58 mm.
