Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother (1900-2002)

Born in 1900, the daughter of the Earl and Countess of Strathmore, she married the Prince Albert, Duke of York in 1923. They had two daughters, Princess Elizabeth (later Queen Elizabeth II) and Princess Margaret Rose (1930-2002). Her husband became King George VI in 1937 after the abdication of King Edward VIII and Elizabeth became Queen Consort. After the death of King George VI in 1952, the Queen dowager took the title of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother and lived until 2002, when she died, aged 101, at Royal Lodge, Windsor. The Queen Mother was a very popular figure in British public life and her milestone birthdays were always the cause of much celebration, inspiring the manufacture of commemorative pieces such as the present watch.
