Hilaire Bassereau, Paris, No. 365, completed in February 1805. Rare and unusual 18K gold quarter repeating watch with a special escapement, a mechanical calendar on the gilt brass cuvette, also engraved with an equation table.
Three body "Empire" case with reeded band. White enamel dial with a small Breguet central hour chapter ring and outer Arabic minute ring (very slightly restored on the edge). Blued steel Breguet hands. Gilt brass cuvette hinged on the movement, the equation table engraved on the edge, the calender ring at the center. The poli-shed steel calender hand is driven by means of a ratched wheel and levers each time the key is inset in the winding hole. Gilt brass typical Lepine caliber movement with a free standing barrel, a double wheel duplex escapement and a plain brass three armed balance with a Breguet " parachute" suspension and a bimetallic compensation curb acting on the balance spring lengths. Repeating on gongs by means of the depressing pendant. Signed and dated on the cuvette. In good condition. Diam. 59 mm.
