Case: 18 ct., three piece, quatre baguettes form, engine-turned à grains d'or (ge, the back centred with a small monogram for Captain Peter G. Belin. Gold cuvette.
Dial: Eccentric, engine-turned silver, signed: " Breguet, No. 2785", with Roman numerals on a plain reserve, subsidiary seconds and a sector en raved with up-and-down scale calibrated to 60 lours. Gold Breguet hands.
Movement: Rhodiumed, 19"', No2785, ébaudie by H.D. Piguet with fausses côtes decoration, 22 jewels, relieved for the oscillating gold winding weight, pivoted beneath the dial on the edge of the front plate. Straight line lever escapement with cut bimetallic balance. Blued-steel Breguet balance spring.
In perfect condition. Diam. 49 mm.

History: Captain Peter G. Belin, the original purchaser of this watch, was the owner of an important collection of antique pocket watches. The collection was, in fact, largely put together by his father Ferdinand Lammot Belin, Secretary to the Minister at the United States Legation in Peking, where the dissolution of the last Chinese dynasty presented an opportunity to acquire a wide range of watches made specifically for that market. Sold by Sotheby's in London on 29 November 1979, the collection totalling some 195 lots contained six Breguets, although this watch was not included.
