Notes

History: Delivered in 1829 in a plain engineturned gold case, by Tavernier, with a bayonet fitting back, the repair books of Maison Breguet record a new case from 1837. In the restoration book from 1845 it is described ... Boîte d'or émaillé en blanc et gravée .., cuvette en or". It is impossible to establish the exact year when the new case was made (between 1829-1837) but there is no doubt that it was at the request of Baron Schickler, whose arms appear not only on the back of the watch but also on the matching pill and patch boxes. Obviously the watch was highly prized by the Baron, having originally cost him the stag gering sum of 6000 Francs, in addition to the charges for making the very fine enamel case and accompanying accessories. It was returned by the Baron for overhaul on three occasions: 17 May 1837, 28 October 1842 and 31 January 1845.
Note: The high cost price of 6000 Francs may well reflect the particularly small size of the movement, bearing in mind that it is a quarterrepeater with calendar, constructed on the principals of the garde-temps.
