Extremely fine 18-carat gold and enamel centre second watch made for China. This watch which used to belong to the imperial family was presented by the Emperor of China Yuen-Ming-Yuen in 1860 to Aurelia Pereira de Paiva the famous dancer. Double body case with fixed a bezel decorated overall with 'paillonné' palmettes and enterlaces over a blue background. Gold cuvette engraved with a dedication. White enamel dial with Roman numerals. Gold pierced 'scoties' hands. Unusual very flat gilt brass movement with the going barrel pass ng through the back plate, cylinder escapemert, plain brass three armed balance, continental cock with polished steel endpiece. In very good condition. Diam. 57 mm.

Notes

Paiva (Therèse Lachman, marchioness of Paiva) 1819-1844. Famous dancer, she also was an influential secret agent working for Bismark. One of her several lovers had an hotel built for her on the Champs-Elysee in Paris where she had many parties with numerous writers and politicians.
